What do we do?

Lately Cari has been working on a business development challenge that I, Walter, have been
working on since I started taking this course.
Neither of us has found this easy.

Cari has been working on what is commonly known in business as the “elevator pitch”
Someone gets on an elevator ride with you and after making eye contact, saying hello
they ask ... “what do you do”?

You have the time it takes for the elevator to get to either
of your stops to answer that question ... “what do you do”?
You need to be able to explain the work and
generate enough interest that they will ask for your card and later, actually call you
back to book an appointment.

Saying “I’m a doctor” or a “chiropractor” or a “massage therapist.”
telegraphs those fields but has nothing to do in explaining
to a novice what Altar of Creation work actually is.

Of course I don’t get asked this in many elevators ... at least not in Santa Fe.
But this time limit is applicable to all sorts of social situations: standing in a checkout at a store,
networking events, parties, brief consults with existing patients, etc.

What would you say?  How do you describe Altar of Creation Work?

On another but related subject, do you use the name “Altar of Creation?”
when describing this work?

The elevator pitch should be three sentences or less in length.

This may seem like a really trivial concern but if you think about it,
you can’t help someone if they don’t learn enough about you to be
intrigued enough to actually come in and see you to get the resources they
need.  Right?

What would you say?

Walter

Thanks Walter for asking the question.  It has been a problem for quite sometime for me, because I’m not any of the things you mentioned.  I have come to this work purely from energy work.  I took two Reiki classes to help people who have some idea of energy.  But just this week I sent off a paragraph to a message therapist who is adding me to her Valentine’s E Blast.  So what I said was:
My work is on the energy level helping the client’s body resource their original ability to heal themselves.  Through life we all have encountered blocks either through accidents, falls, injuries, past dis-eases, pregnancies, and just life’s problems.  These situations can cause blocks in Qi/ energy flow.  the body does its best to right itself but sometimes energy work intervention can help the flow back to a self healing and self regulating body.

Some of what I wrote, Walter, comes from what I remember you saying at the 9/11 clinic when we were working with people who just had no idea what we might do to them.  So if you come up with something better or more in line, I’m all ears and willing to listen.  thanks again.  Cindy

great question… good answer…
let’s plan to spend some in-person time talking about this when we are together!

in the meantime, until then consider the following criteria before we attempt to answer the question- “who are you and what do you do?
now- before you begin thinking about what to say… breathe, get on your hooks, and ask the following questions and wait for clarity before you answer (just like a treatment, yes?)
why is this person asking?  is it polite; is it casual; do they really care about what you might have to say, how invested are they to really listening to an answer, or do they want just a superficial quip like “oh, i am a healer or a doctor, etc”  even if they say “what kind of healing work do you do” that means nothing in itself… it can be reflexive and they may have no interest in the answer.  so i might say something provocative and intrinsically meaningless (but sounds good) like: “my work as a doctor is a kind of cross between an engineer, a detective, and a medicine man.”  and they say cool and walk away.  and may remember your answer or not.  however why should you expend energy and your neurons if it did not mean anything anyway?...
so. who is asking?  (this is crucial-  who they are and how they think will determine the level at which you answer) if they are interested, at what level do you direct your answer: are they abstract or concrete thinkers?  is it about life force and physical and spiritual laws, or physics and mechanics and engineering.
what is that they want to know?  why are they asking?  and what type of answer will be meaningful to them… and not to you.  remember it is about them and what they need.  we make the mistake of thinking that we actually need to give them real words… or that they are actually looking for information or data-  most people i have found are really looking for some kind of emotional contact or conveyance of a feeling, at least in the beginning more than the words.

for some more concrete thinking people who might be a little skeptical i might talk about engineering and physics… about solving problems by looking at symptoms in the context of the whole body… how, while i am a doctor i solve problems and help people by practicing more like an engineer who does system analysis than a doctor who chases symptoms around the body.

for other more abstract thinkers i might go into the “we are spiritual beings in a physical container”  and talk about self healing and self-regulation a little.  all the while emphasizing how my approach has enabled me to support the healing of the most complex and seemingly difficult, and at this point i have kind of an international reputation for my clinical successes.

most often when you lead from strength and confidence and don’t try to convey too much information… and in fact say very little… if the person is interested they will follow you from the elevator and ask for a card or want to talk more.  remember please that it is all about ENERGY and not really about the words or information (the words are merely the carrier for the energies!)  so less thought and words and more heart with enthusiasm and passion.
anyway, let’s take this further in a month or so.

remember, energy is all there is… really!
many blessings!

Thank you so very much for the clarity, from question through processing the question, to answering it.  So very insightful and beyond helpful.

Hey Toddie here<

Read the elevator discourse: a Lawyer Friend who I think was worried about me said I was a lay medical anthropologist using proven traditional medical wisdoms clinically”.  If someone is really interested they will ask more.  Steven is quite right you need to met them were they are at.
But ususally when asked without an elevator I say it like this.  When you cut your hand it heals whether you ask it to or not.  I’m very interested in that I say.  An ear doesn’t grow back.  Hand skin grows back.  It may sound silly but that’s the reality and the magic.  Must be a blueprint or master plan and my job is to support it.

Stay out of jail
Big Love,
Todd

Perfect!  Thank you Todd.  I can totally wrap my hooks around that one.  So very helpful, simple and a very clear visual for the what and why of this body of work.
