I am posting an email to Steven and his response (I put E and S so you know who is speaking):
E:Hi Steven- Here’s wishing you the easiest, flowiest move in the history of earthtime!
S: thank you!  while a bit effortful and arduous, it has been relatively easy after the uncertainty of waiting for months, looking at unsuitable spaces or unsuccessfully bidding on places t hat did not work out… we are so blessed with temp space and wonderful people to expedite our new home.
E: I really want to use counterstrain with my clients. It feels very important- especially the cervicals.
S: yes!
E: My notes and drawings had some contradictions and the Counterstrain book (new) shows your specific direction for rotating the head away and sidebending toward as “lateral anterior” contacts, the standard anterior in the book rotates and sidebends same side. Thumb contacts?
S: when in doubt… TRUST that i am sharing with you what works for me!  what has worked for me in the over 20 years since i hung out with dr jones and learned this work from him.  one of the reasons i have for disagreeing with the new book is it does not match my experience in many key cases!
yes ma’am! (rotate away and sidebend toward tender point) for the c 4-8 ant/lat points that is what i have always done and what works best.
does not have to be thumb contacts here.  these are so exquisitely tender that a light finger tip will serve best i think.
S: go figure.  just can’t believe everything you see in books.  i don’t know when jones starting changing his story but i do it the way he used to teach it and have never had the need do otherwise.  it is possible that you might have to sidebend away if toward does not work for some unusual reason… but i don’t think i have ever had to do that!  please at least begin with the way that i taught it to you.
E: The old book does not have the anterior lateral positions at all- just anterior which sidebend and rotate same side.
S: it is in there. curious whether they rotate away and sidebend toward in there?  no matter i am clear with what works.  by the way the books are on their way.  should be there very soon.
E: It is hard to get it from a book and my trust is in you.
S: thank you.
E: I was considering taking a course with the Jones Institute, but I don’t have the money or time to travel and pay for it. I would rather study it with you. Would you be willing to review and refine Amy and I (and anyone else in New York who is available) on just cervical counterstrain.  I am happy to pay you whatever you deem fair for 1 hour ( or whatever you think we need).
S: fine.  we can do it in an hour.  after work. when amy is there.
E:I will be up north for Jeremy’s graduation in late May (yippeee!). Is Wednesday May 25th after 3pm good?
S: how about wed 25th at 5:00 pm?
E: YES! Wed 25th 5pm- any one can join who was at course.
Love, Elaine
PS. I do not have the words to thank you for all you have taught me.
S: bowing deeply… you are most welcome.
